National Car Rental History
National Car rental has been in business for 56 years. On August
27, 1947, National was formed with a group of 24 independent car
rental operators with 60 locations and 800 vehicles.
In 1954, National became the first car rental company to offer
leisure travelers flat rate rentals.
In 1987, National introduced the industries first frequent renter
program, “Emerald Club”, and later, the “Choice
Rental Process” would give all National customers the ability
to choose their own vehicle. In 2002, National started “Quick
Rent Service”.
In Mexico, National operates by the franchise system and follows
all standard procedures as an international company.
Frequently Asked Questions and Rental Policies in Mexico
1. Additional drivers – In all locations in Mexico, there
is a daily charge of $5.00 USD plus taxes and fees for each additional
driver. In addition, all additional drivers must meet all rental
qualifications and appear at the rental counter with the primary
renter, present a valid driver’s license and sign the rental
agreement.
2. Age Requirement – The minimum age to rent a car in Mexico
is 21. All customers between the ages of 21 and 24 renting at
Mexican locations will be charged an additional daily fee of $5.00
USD plus taxes and fees. Renters in this age group can only rent
economy through full size cars.
3. Border Crossing from Mexico to the United States (Tijuana
location only) – Cars Rented in Tijuana may be driven into
the United States with prior authorization. There will be an additional
daily charge of $5.00 USD for extra insurance.

in Mexico charge a 10% fee.

8. Credit Cards in Mexico – Customers renting cars must
present an acceptable valid credit card in their own name at the
time of rental. Signature on the back of the card must match name
imprinted on the card.
Credit cards honored: VISA, Master Card, American Express. Debit
Cards are not accepted.
9. Driver’s License – In order to rent a National
vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required and must be
“in hand” at time of rental. Photocopies will not
be accepted.
10. Fuel Policies – National Car Rental provides a full
tank of gas at the time of rental. Cars returned with less than
a full tank will be charged a refueling service charge along with
the cost of the fuel.
11. Late Charges – National Car Rental calculates rates
based on a 24 hour period from the time of rental. If cars are
not returned on time, a late charge will be incurred.
12. Mechanical Problems and Accidents – National Car Rental
must be notified with 24 hours of any mechanical problems or accidents.
An accident report for National will be required .
Rent using Cash: These locations do not accept cash at time of
rental.
